Papers, 1768-1910.

This collection consists in part of papers and correspondence of Benjamin Heywood 1st. Some of the papers relate to the estates of Phineas Heywood (1707-1776) of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Elisha Goddard (1719-1784) of Sutton, Mass., 1770-1811. Other legal documents include writs, 1802-1807, and papers relating to Heywood's occupation as justice of the peace, 1790-1807, and his activities as General Superintendent following the war. The correspondence, 1784-1815, reflects Heywood's various business and professional interests, including the liquor business. There are also promissory notes, receipts, accounts, and deeds. The collection includes six ledgers, 1819-1869, and eight daybooks, 1835-1869, of Benjamin Franklin Heywood concerning his medical practice in Worcester. There is also a Benjamin F. Heywood notebook, 1814-1815, on medical lectures as well as a ledger, 1854, entitled "Heywood & Russell," concerning an ice-dealing business in Worcester. In addition, there are miscellaneous papers, 1815-1868, of Benjamin F. Heywood. The collection also includes a daybook, 1844-1847, of Benjamin Heywood (1821-1860) in addition to an account book, 1890-1893, and four ledgers, 1898-1910, concerning the Heywood Farm in Worcester. (It should be noted that a few of the ledgers and daybooks attributed to Benjamin F. Heywood could have been kept by his son, who practiced in Worcester from 1844 to 1860.).
